2 Almanac Journal and Courier Lafayette lndThurs May 27 1982 WL Library board eyes expansion The West Lafayette Library Board will move ahead in its investigation of expanding the present building and throw out any plans of moving to Burt sfield Elementary School Library board president Joseph Dolan said this morning that the board reached its decision during a meeting Wednesday night Dolan said factors contributing to the decision were the feeling that the West Lafayette Community School Corp board have a of urgen about exploring the possibility of moving and that Burtsfield parents were opposed to the move Dolan said the school board mentioned moving the library about three months ago But during the May meeting it decided to shelve talks for four more months Dolan said and the library board wants to move' faster than that During initial discussions the school board men tioned a 10 year lease But Dolan said that 10 years is too short for the library to move from its present building at 208 Columbia St to Burtsfield 1800 Salisbury St However Dolan said he knew it was impossible to predict enrollments more than 10 years in the future Because the plans to move to Burtsfield have been abandoned the library board will be looking at what needs to be done legally for an expansion com parison of costs of library buildings or expansions in other Indiana cities and recommendations of architects Dolan said the board has the money for an expan sion and would like to build while the economy is for cing building costs down The library purchased the former Church of the Good Shepherd three and a half years ago with inten tions of expanding the library Dolan said One idea was to level the church for parking and expand the library building on its present parking lot The library board was making plans to move ahead with an expansion when the idea of expanding to Burtsfield was proposed he said Deaths in city area uneral arrangements listed on Page 3 Mrs Muriel
