I have a Z8, and love it, but it's a bit bulky for travel. I was considering a Zf but don't like the idea of needing an aftermarket grip that takes away from the retro style. I'm also not so sure the weight/size difference between the Z8 and Zf are that pronounced. It seems like every review I've read or watched always mentions the bad ergonomics, especially with heavy lenses. Unfortunately, there's no local camera stores nearby to check it out and hold it.

I am sure from the specs and the reviews the Zf takes exceptional photos but was wondering if most owners also feel the need for the aftermarket grip.

Thanks!

Le('s be honest, the Z8 and Zf are in the same ballpark for weight and even for size, especially if you add a grip to the Zf.

If the Z8 is too heavy for you for travel and daily carry, you will rapidly think the same of the Zf. The 200 grs difference (or 100 grs if grip) is only noticeable if you hold them at the same time, not while you use them separately.

Reasons to get the Zf is looks, retro vibes, fun factor and smaller files (faster to transfer, edit, etc). Otherwise, the Z8 is king, even for travel (why deprive yourself from 45MP for once in a lifetime shots?).

Ergonomics: of course the Z8 (or Z6III) is much easier to manipulate, and even more so for backscreen shooting. But the Zf looks so much cuter and its ergonomics do have nostalgia value (looks and feels and balances like a F3). I love my Zf, but after using a Z8 loaner for a couple weeks, I regret not having saved a bit for that model.

For really lightweight leisurely travel, the Zfc + 24mm DX is probably the best purchase. Same convenience and good looks as a Fujifilm X100V.

To be fair, the Zf is two grand, into which is packed probably 90 percent of the Z8 at $3500, extra resolution aside. If the difference were, say, $400 then saving up wouldn't be a big deal. But $1500 is many many months more of saving for a lot of people. And if you've ever shot a film SLR then the Zf feels like home.
