Montagu U-turn shocks EK
East Kilbride were left rocked when an improved offer from Raith sparked a U-turn from wonderkid Kai Montagu.
But boss Mick Kennedy said he could never stand in the 17-year-old's way.
Kennedy said last week that highly-rated Montagu had rejected an offer from Kirkcaldy but they announced his signing out of the blue last night. And speaking to Lanarkshire Live Sport, the EK boss admits it was a surprise for him as well.
It came out of nowhere yesterday. We spoke to Kai and he said he'd refused the deal, then he phoned me back on Friday morning to say Raith had sent an improved offer and he wanted to accept it. We were never going to stand in his way so we were like 'go for it' - it is a big move for the kid.
I think he has got a wee bit to go before he is at first team level, just in terms of consistency, but he is an extremely talented kid. We play against Celtic and Hearts B teams in the Lowland League and he is as good as anything in there, in my opinion, so he is more than capable.

Milan pursue signing trio
Despite Lewis Ferguson's Bologna now confirmed as Champions League qualifiers for next season's revamp, they look set to lose one of their star players to Serie A rivals AC Milan, with the Rossoneri seemingly having a clear run at Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee.
The former Bayern Munich youngster has been attracting admiring glances from San Siro as they look to complete a striking overhaul this summer following the departure of Olivier Giroud.
A crunch meeting in London is said to be taking place over Zirkzee, Chelsea striker Armando Broja and Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash, according to a report in Calcio Mercato, a transfer-centred sister website of iconic Italian pink-sheet La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Lille coach Paulo Fonseca is close to being appointed as Stefano Pioli's replacement and the Portuguese is expected to oversee a raft of new additions as his new side attempt to claw back the chasmic gap between them and city rivals Inter.

Lenny KBed Dons and Hibs
Neil Lennon says he was offered multiple jobs in Scotland before moving to Romania.
And he lifted the bonnet on 'brief conversations' with Hibs and Aberdeen. The former Easter Road and Celtic boss was out of work for 18 months between his sacking by Omonia Nicosia and his arrival at Rapid Bucharest last month. The interim period saw him linked with virtually every Premiership vacancy that came up - most prominently at Pittodrie and Easter Road, with Lennon admitting interest in both cases.
Neither came to much though and he accepted a moneyspinning move to Romania for his latest challenge in his increasingly nomadic managerial career. And he admits it was something he couldn't say no to - because it's a 'far better' option than any of the serious offers in Scotland.

The Miller and Bair necessity
Stephen O'Donnell has insisted Lennon Miller and Theo Bair will only be sold for the right price.
Miller has shone in his breakthrough season for Motherwell while Bair surprised everyone by topping the club;s scoring charts after signing from St Johnstone.
And O'Donnell can;t see Stuart Kettlewell panicking and accepting the first offer the Steelmen may get for either.
"I don't see the manager as someone who will panic or have his arm forced," he told Lanarkshire Live Sport. "He will have a decision to make I'm sure because Theo was exceptional for Motherwell last season and so was Lennon Miller, a great young prospect.
"I'm sure there will be interest and offers for them but as much as we might see ourselves as a selling club, we don't need to sell these players. They are under contract.
"Of course, if the right offers comes in for someone - you see it at Celtic, you see it at top clubs across the world - and it is what you think they are worth, then you take it, move on, wish them luck and thank them for their services and you go and try to replace them."

Celtic reunions make sense
Comebacks have been all the rage at Celtic of late – with Brendan Rodgers picking up where he left off on the trophy trail.
It’s perhaps understandable that some supporters look at a few ex-players and think it would be nice to see the manager getting the band back together. You can understand the temptation.
Fans look at the situations of the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong and Fraser Forster and reckon the stars are aligning to bring them home.
Maybe Celtic should also be thinking about bringing back Henrik Larsson. My old mate still looks in good nick, after all. There might be as much chance as seeing Henrik next season as the other ones as these guys returning isn’t straightforward.
Don’t get me wrong, all of these players were successful players for Celtic and would no doubt enhance the current squad. READ MORE

"We've got competition for him, there’s no doubt. But I think with the environment that we’ve created and where we want to be next season, we’ll never be able to get to the level of finance that some clubs are getting to.
"There’s a couple in the Championship that are massively outgunning us. But we hope to get that over the line in terms of what we want to do, progression, who we’re trying to sign, the boys we've already signed and the environment that we’re creating.
"Paul’s on holiday now. We’re hopeful we’ll get an answer in the next 48 hours from Paul and then we need to sort a few things out but we’re really, really hopeful.”

'Very football crazy'
By Mark Walker
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revealed Besitkas reminded him of Rangers - and that is why he chose to come out of the football wilderness.
The former Light Blues boss ended his spell without a dugout role after being without a job since leaving Ibrox in November 2022.
During his time in Glasgow he guided Rangers to the Europa League Final - narrowly losing out in a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to Bundesliga side Frankkurt - and now he will look to revive Besiktas, with the Istanbul outfit finishing a distant sixth last term.
He explained: "A lot has happened in the past year and a half, but I only wanted to start talking if I really enjoyed something and got energy from it. Besiktas is in such a club in every respect. They have a large following and play in a great stadium, in a city where they are very football crazy.
"Rangers, Barcelona, Arsenal and Feyenoord. All clubs I have been involved with and they all have the same image and culture. Besiktas are the same. They are always playing at the top of the league and must win prizes.
"They are a club I have always looked out for. I said no earlier in the season, but kept in touch with them. It gathered momentum quickly and this time I said yes."

Gray's no yes man
Hibs needed to appoint a manager to bring the whole club back together because in the 25 years since I broke through in Leith I’d say there’s never been a bigger disconnect with the supporters.
And that’s a worrying admission given some of what’s gone on in that time. Easter Road should be rocking but for too long the atmosphere has been shocking and I’ve said for a couple of seasons now that apathy has bee sweeping around the place. Season ticket holders have been getting to the stage they can’t be bothered going to games and that says it all.
David Gray’s appointment can sort that. I’m certain of it. He has the respect of the fans first and foremost. He is a Scottish Cup winning legend, a popular figure around the club and he is exactly the right type of no-nonsense character needed to sort this team out. READ MORE
